You have read Scott Wright'snd Mel's mock etc but I know you have really been waiting for is my mock. Ha.
Here goes.

Before the draft I'd sign a DE like Carter or Holliday

#1 Oher: Ted has said he is willing to wait a for a lst rounder to develop if the person is talented enough.

#2 Brace: He can split time with Picket this year, play in the 4/3 and then become a starter next yea

#3. Byrd DB Oregon: He can play corner, he can play safety, he can return punts. Bottom line he is a playmaker.
Plus he lived in GB for awhile when his dad worked for the Pack so he can show the other rookies where the best fish fries are located.

# Brown: OLB Connecticut Will compete with Thompson and others for the ROLB spot and should be a top special team player

#4: Trade for a starting right tackle. Enough of this moving Sitton talk or starting G Man who is green as grass. Get a veteran starter- no idea who that would be- I'd be willing to trade a 3rd for a starter if need be.

5 Pascoe Finally a TE who can block and who is also a very good special teams player-blocked 6 kicks in his career

6Knighton DE Temple- someone with upside to develop

6: It's trendy to use this pick on a punter. I am not as concerned as other because they have the # 1 punter from 08 under contract but I want to be trendy so I'll takeMorestead

7 Knox WR Abeline Christian- The late round picks are such a long shot my philosoh is to take guys with upside. Why bother with the try hard types. Knox is one of the fastest players in the draft and can contribute on returns while he is developing his offensive game.

There you have it.

Your not going to get a starting left tackle for a third unless he is a average starter or washed up if not both. If you are going to trade to get a good starting left tackle you will have to give up at least a second if not more.

I like Oher, Brown and Pascoe a lot. I can live with Brace, but I think he's a bit overrated just because this draft is so light on quality "bigs".

My only concern is not addressing DE, possibly our weakest position. I don't see Knighton as a DE, probably a NT somewhere down the road - and you already have Brace. If you're set on your top guys then maybe look at Francois, Irvin or Abdallah here. Abdalahh especially seem like the "longer" sort that would do pretty well at the DE spot.

Trading that 3rd or 4th for an OT is a decent idea, but I don't know who'll do that kind of deal on draft day for a starting RT. I'll take my chances on Tauscher coming back and honestly if you are will to give up a 3rd, just draft Cadogan and be done with it. The kid is a decent athlete and extremely intelligent. He can get it done. Start Oher next year and you could have a solid OT pair for the next decade. You might have to forget Byrd, but that's not the end of the world. Kevin Barnes, Mike Mickens, Ladarius Webb and Jason McCourty can be had in that 4th-6th round area.

Also, I don't think Knox makes it to the 7th Rd - too much speed. Hell, Dead Al will take him before then if anything. There are some interesting size/speed guys that could be intriguing in the 7th. They'll need some development time, but that's OK - that's why we have a practice squad. Tiquan Underwood, Andrew Means, Marko Mitchell, Brooks Foster, Jamarko Simmons, and Dominique Edison are some interesting guys with size and/or speed that would be worth a flier in the 6th/7th rounds.

I think it's a very good draft.
I do think he addressed DE with the acquistion of Holliday or Carter.
Drafting another DE late to develop would be nice though.
Clifton would give us a LT next year with maybe Oher moving there in 2010.
And he wanted to trade for a starting RT not LT, which still MIGHT be tough.

Overall, I'd be happy with this.

Good Job!!

Go Pack!!!

Sorry, typed kind of fast and might not have put my thoughts together so well. Perhaps it came out a bit too negative. I do like this mock draft.

Perhaps it was misunderstood. When I said start Oher "next year", I meant the next year in 2010. I do realize he meant to trade for a RT as I said at the end of my sentence. I just don't see a team making that kind of deal for a 4th round pick during the draft. I doubt you get anything of quality for a 4th unless he's old (which leaves you addressing the problem again soon anyway) so I would rather just be more pro-active and take Cadogan in the 3rd.

Also, I agree that Holiday or Carter would address DE in the short term, I just disagree somewhat that Knighton is even a long-term solution. He looks like a future NT to me, not a DE.

Again, this is all just quibbling about a couple of the picks. By and large this would be a very good draft.

#1 OT Michael Oher
#2 NT Ron Brace:
#3. CB Jairus Byrd
#3b OLB Cody Brown:
#4: Trade for a starting right tackle.
#5 TE Bear Pascoe
#6 DE Terrance Knighton
#6: P Thomas Morstead
#7 WR Johnny Knox

Those selections are a good match to players I like. I'd be happy if it went down somewhat like this.

I have no problems with Oher in the first....or Andre Smith for that matter. I accept that it is rolling the dice of chance, and if the prospect fails to develop, I'll shrug my shoulders and move on. Sometimes you have to gamble on greatness, and if you are afraid to pony up the stake.......you never will gamble.

I'd be very comfortable with Ron Brace in the second even though some more notable draftniks here (DOL, Patty) do not like him. For me, he is one of the safest selections......but we all have guys we like, and ones that we don't (I have decided Barwin is too green at OLB, for the hype he is getting).

With our round three selections, I'd look for either Chris Baker or Ricky Jean-Francois (as 3-4 DEs). I'd also select T.J.Lang to be a future RT here in a heartbeat, if he is still on board. I think he will be quite something....Just love the fiery attitude he'd bring.

Fourth would be a good place of CB, That TE in the 5th is a beast in the blocking game (and there are some good FBs too).

Thanks for the feedback folks.

I would take Andre Smith over Oher. Don't get me wrong, Oher has heart and always plays 100%, but I feel like he won't reach his potential. Smith, on the other hand, needs someone to light a fire under his ***, and keep him motivated.

I love the kids upside, but I still won't take any tackle in the top 10.
Packdaddy
there you have it...sign me up. Can't quibble with any of the picks, except perhaps Huber over Morestead, and instead of trading the 4th rounder, taking a 3rd down RB...J.Johnson, I. Johnson, C. Sheets, et al.
