Full Version: could cushing be the guy

OH Packer revisited
I have to admit that I have given Cushing no thought as being a possible pick at 9. I know TT has gone to the USC pro day but practically every GM was there. What makes me think of this is that Cushing was invited to the draft. That means the NFL thinks he's a top 10 pick. Doesn't mean he will be but they have good reason to believe he will. Cushing is a complete LB and would make sense. I just found it interesting he was invited and I have not seen him in the top 10.

It's possible, but I doubt it. Not sure what the NFL was thinking, inviting 10 guys this year, vs. 5 or 6 in the past. Josh Freeman was also invited... anyone NOT sniffing something think he'll be a top 10 pick?

It's a good move on the NFL's part. The more people they invite who are not supposed to be a high pick, the less chance for embarassment as one of their supposedly top 5 prospects slips to 24.

They only invited the USC linebackers, Oher, and Freeman because they're pretty good stories.

the roid story hasn't really been backed up yet.

but there too many guys with more upside that will be available at 9. Cushing looks like he'll be solid, but I don't know if he'll be any better than Hawk or Chillar. we could use an impact type player at DL, T, or even TE. i think we can get by at LB for the time being with Kampy as our rusher.

if you think Cushing is the next DeMarcus Ware, then ok, but i just don't think he has that kind of potential.

I don't see TT pulling the trigger on Cush at #9 but I wouldn't be surprised if he traded back and somehow ended up with him. I've looked at many mocks and have tweaked a few myself and I think there is a chance that Cushing may fall in the draft below what his value is. Maybe it's just a hunch.

Matt McGuire just did a piece on Cushing and how he might just fall into Rd 2.

Not sure I agree, but I can see the thinking behind it. You don't generally take a LB early if he's just an early down player. If he can't play on passing downs, why bother. Still, he's talented enough that I suspect he goes somewhere late in Rd.
