Filtering through the NFL DraftThe first thing that struck me was that there were six OT's and five WR's in the first round. Really? I've read that Maclin has major questions about his off-field behavior. Also, I read a recent article that said that very few of the first round WRs actually paid off. Jennings and Jones were second round picks, I believe. Sure, there is always a team that is willing to "fo for it"- Detroit comes to mind under the tutelage of Millen.
Maybe I have misread this post. If so, I will be willing to be corrected- politely. However, I believe the draft is an enourmously expensive "crapshoot". Every team does its due diligence, checks everything out they can, then decides which player they want to target at a specific slot. Of course, they have back-up plans in case their player isn't there.
Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you don't. The Packers drafted Murphy, who looked like he might be a good player on the field. Instead, he got hurt, and is out of football. So the Packers drafted Jennings and Jones in back-to-back drafts.
I still say, its all a crapshoot. You might get Ray Lewis; or you might get Jamal Reynolds.
