Happy Easter everyone!

As far as the draft goes and overall needs, I think my view differs from the majority.

First area of difference - I feel that Darren College can take over at left tackle and play it well when Clifton becomes a free agent. He played the position at Boise State and played it well. He has done a fairly good job at guard but is miscast there. He is built to handle speed types, not maulers. So I don't see the need to gamble on an Andre Smith.

Second area of difference - While I think that Malcom Jenkins is the best corner in the draft, there are more pressing needs elsewhere. If TT and the coaching staff feel that Williams and last years 2nd round pick - Patrick Lee are not capable of starting then Jenkins could and should be considered. But Williams has shown he is capable and you don't use a 2nd on someone to be a down the road nickle back.

Lets take a look at the d-line.

NT - Pickett : Good solid player. Getting older. Would need to be part of a rotation. Back ups are just that. An area of glaring need.
DE - Questions abound. Jenkins : Perfect fit on one side, but is slow coming off an injury. Jolly: Serviceable player if he is not in jail or suspended. Either way, we should be looking at an upgrade.
Harrell: Does anyone really know? We haven't seen enough to even know how his talent level compares to anyone. Could be good but I wouldn't be putting all my eggs in Harrells basket so to speak.
The rest: If they have to play for any extended amount of time we are in big trouble.

The draft:
To make my draft work would require a trade down in the 1st round to net an additional 2nd round pick. I would think we would be able to do this if Raji (Denver), Sanchez ( Jets,TB ), Crabtree or Macklin ( Jets,TB, Den, Phil,) are available at nine.

For the sake of argument we will say we send the #9 pick (1350 points) to Denver for #18 and #48 and #172 (1344 points). Why not stand pat and take Raji? Do not want to dole out the huge bonus and salary to a rotational player. Not with Jennings, Collins, and Kampman soon to be UFA.

Draft: Scenario 1

1. # 18 - Knowshon Moreno RB - Upgrade over Grant in the running dept. Huge upgrade over Grant in catching the ball out of the backfield. An element of the offense that has been severely lacking since the days of Ahman Green. Grant becomes trade bait.
2. # 41 - Jarron Gilbert DE - Starter opposite Jenkins in the 3-4. When going to a 4-3 set, moves inside for an interior pass rush. Versatile with a huge upside.
2. # 48 - Clint Sintim OLB - Starter at olb opposite Kampman.
3. # 73 - Gerald Cadogan T - Steps into the starting spot at RT.
3. # 83 - Jairus Byrd CB - Good zone defender. Down the road insurance policy.
4. #105 - Chris Baker DT - Could contribute at NT in rotation with Pickett.
5. #137 - Tony Fiammetta FB - Upgrade at FB.
6. #169 - Kevin Huber P - Field position upgrade.
6. #172 - Bear Pascoe TE - Finally a tight end who can block.
6. #174 - BPA
7. BPA

Draft: scenario 2

1. # 18 - Tyson Jackson DE
2. # 41 - Donald Brown RB

All else would remain the same, although if Barwin was available at #48 ,I would select him over Sintim.

Thats my take and I'm sticking to it.

I'm not clear on the trade because pick 172 is now a comp. pick owned by Dallas.
I don't think Green Bay should draft a RB in the 1st round. I believe they should allow their young backs an opportunity to develop. Also, trading Grant might result in a large cap hit because of the contract he recently signed. Therefore, I would prefer scenario 2.
According to my understanding, you would expect Moreno, Gilbert, Sintim, Cadogan, Fiammetta, and Huber to start. It is very difficult to start 6 rookies while maintaining a high level of play. I believe, however, that this draft could be the basis for a successful team in a few years.
You did an outstanding job of explaining the reasoning behind the trades and draft choices.

I am not against a back in round 1, I did not expect a WR last year and I can see some room to impove there. I am not a huge Jackson fan but if they picked him I guess I would chalk it up to they know more about him than I do so... I like round 1 although I think Moreno lost a bit of luster because for a back that size to be drafted that high he lacks elite speed. Does that matter? The draft can weird about that.

badgerman, first of all, let me say that you, sir, have a lot of guts. Drafting a RB first and trying to move Grant? Wow! As noted earlier, you are lucid and logical in explaining your picks. This is food for thought, and not the type of post to react to. "I'll be back " (you can provide your own Austrian accent to those fateful words).

Badgerman-
Well done, although I'll pile on the #1 pick. Would rather see the Pack pick someone like G. Coffee at #5 and let him compete with Wynn and that other UGA player, Lumpkin. I'm hoping the Pack selects two quality OL prospects (Cadogan definitely one of them) and gets the OL stabilized this year. That will do wonders for running game. BPF
