Full Version: Full first round mock

I think the mock from Walterfootball sounds pretty reasonable. I've made a few changes, especially regarding the Packers. How likely does this sound for the first round?

1) Detroit: Matt Stafford, QB - Georgia
If the Lions need a good OT, they can get one at #20. The same can't be said for QB.

2) St. Louis: Jason Smith, QT - Baylor
Could be Monroe, but which one doesn't really matter for the Packers - both will be long gone before our pick.

3) Kansas City: Aaron Curry, LB - Wake Forest
Seems like everyone has him going here.

4) Seattle: Eugene Monroe, OT - Virginia
The could also go QB or WR here, but call Monroe really fall any further?

5) Cleveland: Brian Orakpo, DE/LB - Texas
I think their interest in a QB is just a smokescreen.

6) Cincinnati: B.J. Raji, NT - Boston College

7) Oakland: Jeremy Maclin, WR - Mizzou
Who knows which way the crazy, old dude will go?

8) Denver: Mark Sanchez, QB - USC
I agree with the walterfootball scenario if Sanchez is available at #8. They have the extra 3rd-round pick from Chicago so they can package that to move up 4 spots and get a good QB prospect and still have another 1st and 3rd round pick.

9) Philadelphia: Michael Crabtree, WR - Texas Tech
Green Bay fans sob when Denver moves up to take Sanchez thinking that the trade down possibilities just dried up. But Philly needs an elite WR and has plenty of firepower to move up.
The trade is #9 (1350) and #41 (490) for #21 (800), #28 (660), #53 (370) and #195 (13.4)

10) San Francisco: Aaron Maybin, DE/LB - Penn. St.

11) Buffalo: Everette Brown, DE - Florida St.

12) Jacksonville: Malcolm Jenkins, CB - Ohio St.

13) Washington: Andre Smith, OT - Alabama

14) Green Bay: Michael Oher, OT - Mississippi
Green Bay is eyeing either Smith or Oher and jumps back ahead of San Diego to grab Oher after Mr. Smith goes to Washington.
The trade is #21 (800) and #53 (370) for #14 (1100) and #116 (62)

15) Houston: Chris Wells, RB - Ohio St.

16) San Diego: Tyson Jackson, DE - LSU
The replace Olshansky and piss off Denver with one pick.

17) New York Jets: Knowshon Moreno, RB - Georgia
Could go with Freeman, but I don't think so.

18) Denver: Clay Matthews, LB - USC

19) Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman, QB - Kansas St.
Someone will take him in the first round.

20) Detroit: William Beatty, OT - U Conn.

21) New Orleans: Vontae Davis, CB - Illinois

22) Minnesota: Eben Britton, OT - Arizona

23) New England: Darius Butler, CB - U Conn
With 3 2nd-round picks and 2 3rd-round picks, I expect the Pats to trade up. But how far and for whom??

24) Atlanta: Brandon Pettigrew, TE - Ok State

25) Miami: Connor Barwin, DE/LB - Cincinnati

26) Baltimore: Hakeem Nicks, WR - North Carolina

27) Indianapolis: Peria Jerry, DT - Mississippi

28) Green Bay: Jarron Gilbert, DE - San Jose St.
We are nicely positioned from the trade with Philly to take him before the Titans

29) New York Giants: Brian Cushing, LB - USC

30) Tennessee: Evander Hood, DT - Mizzou

31) Arizona: Sean Smith, CB - Utah

32) Pittsburgh: Alex Mack, C - California

We wouldn't have a 2nd round pick, which is hard to imagine TT doing since that seems to be his favorite round, but we do end up with Oher and Gilbert and we still have 2 picks in the 3rd.

Very well could be a likely scenario. It's nice to see a full round mock because it shapes how we use our pick. Not sure Gilbert belongs in the first round though.

Ryan-
Agree, Ayers or Hood might be better choices at #28. BPF

I gotta disagree with that. I think Ayers is a very poor fit for the 3-4 (probably would be an OLB, but a much better 4-3 DE IMO), and Hood is more of a penetration based under tackle than a 5 technique DE who occupies blockers. I think Gilbert can sneak into the end of round 1 (I have him going to Pittsburgh at #32 currently). Gilbert is a much better fit as a DE for a 3-4 defense than either Ayers or Hood from what I have seen.

What do you think of him at #28 if we ended up with that pick? Or is there someone you'd rather have at that point in this mock?

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

If they could pull that off, I would love that.

I think the trades that I have in there are plausible, if unlikely. I keep seeing comments from multiple people that Gilbert is one of the best DE for a 3-4 defense, so I just don't see how he will last until #41.

The one thing I didn't spend enough time on was that Patriots. With 3 2nd-round picks and 2 3rd-round picks, they could move up in the first round. Maybe they would target one of the top RBs? Or maybe they try to end up with 2 picks in the first.

I think that would be a fairly solid selection at #28. I haven't gone through my full list of players to look for a guy who might've fallen, but I will say if this trade happened and we took Gilbert at #28, I would be fine with that.

DOL-
Admittedly, I don't know much about the distinctions between 3-4 and 4-3 DL. I do think Ayers and Hood are quality football players. Regardless, if TT does what DPF proposes - OT and DL in the first round-I'd be thrilled. BPF
