I hate to be rude, but there's absolutely no way that trade happens. You'd have to throw in this year's 1st round pick as well. Moving up to #1 is expensive, and Detroit isn't going to go into next season without a 1st round pick from this draft. Beyond that, why trade for Brohm when they have Drew Stanton, who is IMO a better prospect. Or why not just draft a QB #1, as either Stafford or Sanchez are better prospects than Brohm. I don't understand the purpose of the deal from Detroit's point of view. Would it be nice to add a decent safety and a decent QB prospect? Yes, but not at the expense of the top overall pick in the draft.

Then, don't be rude. Its easy to tell a trade like that won't happen, but it would be better for the lions than you probably believe. You mention that Detriot isn't going to go into this draft without a pick and round one, they still have the cowboys selection a twenty from the roy williams deal. If my team was the lions than i would rather have Brian Brohm as competition for Stanton who as a young player is just as likely to hit as Brohm. Both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers appeared average in preseason, but once they picked up the speed of the game played at a pro bowl level. Brohm looked in preseason, just like Rodgers did versus the ravens when we got blown out in the regular season a few years back in mop up duty.

Would the lions be better with one player or with a starter in a weak secondary at safety, a qb with more promise in the future with Culpepper, a second round pick this year they grab a wideout to compliment CJ, and a first next year to aid a team that doesn't need a player, but needs players....everywhere.

Is Matt Stafford better than the combination of Brohm, Bigby, and a top 50 player this year and next? I would venture no.

What you are offering Detroit is a group of players who will likely be average/decent starters. You expect much more out of the #1 pick in the draft. Simply put, a trade like that will never happen. You are basically valuing Brohm and Bigby as worthy a very high first round pick. Look at the history of trades for the #1 overall pick. Even if you discount it a bit due to the fact that the cost of #1 has increased, the package you have outlined is still not even in the ball park of what it has taken in the past.

I see where you are coming from, because history shows teams will give up a lot to move up and grab a top draft pick. The saints gave up their whole draft for Ricky Williams. But, I think this is something that should be changed in the nfl. Without, a major man among boys type of athlete in this draft the lions won't necessarily get a better player at one then someone might get at ten. Also, the contract would prevent them from getting free agents next year in order to rebuild the entire roster, instead of banking on one player to make up for the other 10 on the field. In my opinion with the overall talent growing around college football, much like many things in america, the first overall pick is overrated.
