I think TT and the Packers look at this draft class and see only about 4 franchise-type players that fit into what they want to do right now: Monroe-Curry-Jason Smith-and Raji. I expect the first three to be gone by the first four picks. They may all end up being gone by then, depending on the Cutler situation, but if not, I've been saying TT tries to trade up to the #5 or #6 spots. Right now, I think #6 is where he would end up moving up. The draft value chart has the cost to move up from #9 to #6 as the Packers 1st and (first) 3rd round picks (and maybe a 6th). It would make sense for Cincinnati as their likely pick (Andre Smith) could still be there considering Oakland and Jacksonville could both go with WR's (though both teams are also wild-cards which makes it IMO important to get in front of). So, given that scenario, I here's my Packer's Mock:
st (#6): BJ Raji - big NT/DT that can play in the 4-3 and 3-4, provides immediate depth and playmaking ability while transitioning to the full time Capers 3-4 system
nd ( #41): Clint Sintim (OLB Virginia) While I would love it if Connor Barwin were still there, I don't think he will be. Sintim was a rush LB in Virginia's 3-4 and would be a great addition to the LB core, which I think will be better than many think. If Beatty (OT U Conn) is here, he may be the pick, but I think Beatty is gone in the first rd.
rd (#73): trade to move up in the first
rd (#83): Gerald Codagan (OT Penn St) rumors are Pack likes him. RT of the future?
th (#109): Mitch King (DE in 3-4, Iowa). Solid player, adds depth the D-line, about the right spot for him
th (#145): Austin Collie (WR BYU). I'm not sure he lasts this long, but if so, this is a type of Packer pick. Solid player, mature, 100+ catches, good routes, good hands. Not a need pick, but if Driver is gone in 2010 as some rumor, this would still provide the Packers with one of the best WR cores. Also, James Jones has had problems staying healthy... this reminds me of the Jordy Nelson pick, and at #5 after getting a DT/OLB/OT and DE with the first 4 picks, is a luxury.
th (#182): Jared Bronson (TE Central Washington). Athletic pass catching tight end from small school. Raw, but potential.
th (#187): Luis Vazquest (OG Texas Tech): Mauler guard, may not last this long, though some publications have him as a 6th rounder. Will need to adjust from spread offense.
th (#218): Jeremy Navarre (DE Marylyand 6'3 285): sized as a 3-4 DE. Decent production, lacks raw athletic skills, but is a scrapper. Very high effort/high character player.
This type of draft strengthens both O- and D-Lines, picks up a rush OLB, and fills out with competition at WR and TE. Doesn't address CB/S/RB though those are lesser needs.
