As the NFL Draft draws closer, the National Football Post will continue to increase our coverage. Here’s our first three-round mock draft of the season breaking down more potential scenarios that could play out on draft weekend.

I'd be happy with this! Come on, TT!

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/0...und-mock-draft/

Round 1: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State

The Packers need to add someone to their front seven with this pick, and I think Maybin makes the most sense. He is arguably the draft’s top pass rusher and does a great job firing off the snap and attacking upfield. He’s been soaring up draft boards of late and should become the impact pass rusher the Packers need in their new 3-4 scheme.

Round 2: Ron Brace, DT, Boston College

Gives the Packers some much needed depth and talent at nose tackle.

Round 3: Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia

Even with the selection of Maybin in the first round, the Packers need to continue to add pass rushers to their 3-4 defense.

Round 3 (from N.Y. Jets): Gerald Cadogan, OT, Penn State

An athletic lineman who has the length and feet to play either tackle or guard.

I'd be petrified with this draft. I think 9 is way too high for Maybin, I think 41 is way too high for Brace, and I think Cadogan is a reach in the 3rd, though I'm less concerned with that pick. Sintim in 3 would be a great pick, but it doesn't make up for the rest IMO.

I don't see the purpose of adding two OLB's in the first 3 picks but I guess I can understand if someone like Sintim fell and we just couldn't pass him up. I like the positions we targeted in general, but I just see Maybin and Brace as two of the most overrated players in this draft.
NeuBrew
I'm with DOL. I hate almost everything about this draft. My only consolation is that Brace could be adequate as a backup nose.
Favre-A-Holic
I don't think Sintim is very good, but I guess I could live with him in the 3rd. Every other pick is a reach, and the only guy of those 4 who would get any meaningful playing time right away is Brace, and that's as a backup.
Heatseeker
I'm actually starting to embrace the thought of Maybin at 9. In fact, he's there in my latest mock. Whereas there are probably safer picks in the draft, I think Maybin is built in that kind of Julius Peppers mold -- i.e., an absolute freak athlete that can actually play football as well. I think with the right coaching and the right team (Packers) Maybin could an outright stud.

TommMixx
I don't care for this draft. As others have stated, most of the picks are reaches. In the 1st round I would prefer Brown, Oher, Jenkins, or Jackson instead of Maybin.
AZTUNDRA
I'd take Brace in the second anyday. Otherwise not sold on the mock. But what do i know. I've been wrong on most players int he draft for 20 some years.
Nimrod
Add me to those who dont like it , I would prefer a OT taken earlier than the 2nd third . Maybin at 9 scares me .The only thing positive about Maybin is he is only 21 and it could mean that he isnt using steriods to bulk up that fast. Then yes he could be a good pick but at 21 yrs old it will take him 2-3 years to come around. With as much as we already have invested at LB the #9 and a high 3rd does not make since unless we trade one of the three Hawk, Barnett or Kampman.
Denverpackfan
I think I'd prefer the players taken at:
12 - Brown
13 - Oher
15 - Jenkins
16 - Jackson
17 - Mathews
18 - Maclin
21 - Beatty
22 - Britton

over Maybin. If he's the choice, I'd try really hard to trade down into the mid-to-late teens.

Who would start opposite Kampman at OLB? Chiller? Poppinga? If we draft a LB in the first round he will start.

A lot of people on this board are high on Brown, but he isn't rated very high on most mock drafts (low 1st round). I don't like Brown at all.

I did a quick survey of draft sites and found that Brown is favored over Maybin by approximately a 2 to 1 margin. The sample size was fairly small (probably around 10 sites), but I think it shows something. Draftdaddy.com even had Brown rated as their #1 overall prospect as of late February. On my own board, Brown is much higher than Maybin. I realize that my own board means basically nothing, but I feel strongly that Brown will be a better pro than Maybin.

I think that Brown will be drafted well before Maybin is, but that when it's all said and done Maybin will end up being the better player. I just am not very impressed with Brown at all. I'd prefer the team go after an OLB with their 2nd round pick if they really want one.

No he won't. Guys like Ware and Merriman are the exceptions to the rule. 99.9% of the time, it takes guys at least a year or two to adjust to playing NFL 3-4 outside linebacker, because not only are they taking their hands out of the dirt and having to make reads and play in space, but they also have to adjust to NFL speed and schematic complexities (see Vernon Gholston).
