Seems to have some off-field question marks, but his latest, "incident" seems pretty trivial... drinking a couple brews while playing golf?

Heck, they gave Koren Robinson a chance, why not give a younger, more talented version of him a chance in good ol' Green Bay?

Ya know, so we can trade Jennings for Peppers wink.gif

JimATX
Younger, yes. More talented, no.

I'd pass...
PACKmanN
I don't think he would be interested in Green Bay since there isn't any drug dealers for him.
GBP4EVER
I think he would be in trouble come winter if it starts snowing he would think coke would be falling from the sky and and start snorting the snow. laugh.gif

Sheboygan is pretty close to Green Bay. That place is full of coke-heads.

Pass.

caveat emptor

Combine numbers and athleticism are nice, but there's more to good football players than numbers.

He was in a "diversion program" for being caught snorting cocaine. Part of the deal was that he stay away from any intoxicants. He didn't do so, in spite of a multi-million dollar incentive (his contract). The guy was projected to be really good by Chris Mortenson, and turned out to be a disappointment on the field, and a bust in life.

Why would the Packers want to hook up with this loser, at a position (WR) that they are set?

Oh, and before you quote me his stats from last year, keep in mind the stats from the previous years. The question is- why would the Packers want this loser?

The difference between him and Koren Robinson? Answer that first.

No problem. KR had problems with alcohol and driving, in particular. Alcohol is a legal intoxicant. Cocaine is not. KR also stuck to the letter of the law in his stipulations. Jones did not.

Now, sir, please answer my original post.

Also, why do I seem to detect a whiff of dislike in your posts? If its just me, fine. But when I posted this, I thought, "I'm going to get some heated responses." I did. Why?

Oh, by the bye, I am a 1968 graduate of South High School in Sheboygan. It is full of Coke dealers? Who cares? Personally, I prefer Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pibb or Pepsi. My goodness, you do go off on some tangents, don't you?

K-Rob knew he hit the wall and needed help and has tried to clean up his life. Jones seems to be in denial still that he has a problem and does not seek help for it.

Yes, alcohol is legal. But driving when your BAC is triple the legal limit is far from it. Oh, and breaking triple-digit speeds on the freeway WHILE drunk off your ass isn't legal last time I checked, either.

Matt Jones got busted with coke. Obviously that's a huge red flag, I understand that.

But I think having a couple beers on a golf course no less isn't that big of a deal. I realize he violated his parole by doing so, but again, I think it was pretty minor offense.

How many chances did Robinson get? 3, 4?

So to answer your question (and no, there is no dislike...sorry you got that from my tone.. it isn't intended) why would the Packers want this, "loser?" Well, to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. All I'm saying is that there is precedent with the club in giving a player a second (or in Robinson's case, a 4th) chance.

And I think Jones is a helluva lot better than Robinson. He's 6'6, faster than Ruvell Martin, only 25 years-old and caught 65 passes in only 12 games last year. Is her perfect? Certainly not.

And I couldn't care less if we didn't pick him up. Obviously we're pretty deep at WR, but realize that Driver won't be around forever, and beyond Jennings, we've got a quite a few question marks. Plus, Jones could most likely be had for DIRT cheap right now.

Again, I was just throwing it out there, not going on a, "tangent."
Packergeist
He sounds perfect for Minnesota.

Drinking a few beers illegally might sound trivial to you, and it would be if it was you, but he had a helluva lot more at stake.
If he can get his act together and show some good judgement for awhile, and if we need him then, sure give him a chance.

But right now, while he still has a lot of stupid left in him, no thanks.
