Full Version: Ken Lucas?

Should the Packers consider adding him as a veteran CB? Don't really want him as my starter, but he's a decent player and a good person. I'd think that Trogvak would be able to provide the team with a pretty good evaluation of his abilities. I liked the idea of going after Bodden, but he opted for the Pats. Thoughts?

Samari Rolle is getting released as well..

Either one I think would be a nice pickup.

Still draft Jenkins if either is picked up?

I would take Rolle out of the 2 (3-4 D), but I don't think we do either of them.

i don't think we really need either of them. Rolle's experience in the 3-4 would be nice, but we're pretty well-stocked. we have 2 great corners (21 and 31), 1 good up-and-comer (Tramon Williams), last year's 2nd rounder developmental type (Pat Lee, who everyone seems to forget about), and Blackmon who can play a little bit (especially as a 5th CB) and still has some upside.

of course, there a few question marks, like Tramon's contract situation (which should get resolved for something around 2 mil/yr) and Pat Lee coming off injury. but i don't think that necessitates signing an older player with a little left in the tank (Rolle) or spending a lot of money on such an inconsistent player (Lucas).

That's a good question. I think Rolle buys you a year, maybe two, which I like. It also gives you the chance to see what you have (if anything) in Patrick Lee.

I would say it depends in the next year or two what cb's will be available in the draft and the chance of getting them. I know, pretty much impossible to guess the second one. If you have a high opinion of Jenkins, know you will need a solid cb in the near future, and he is there at your pick IMO you should take him.

I still think that we should add Lucas for a one year deal just like New England did with Leigh Bodden.

A. He's still young enough to have something left in the tank and offers quality depth behind Harris and Woodson.
B. He's not exactly an unknown commodity with TT having been a part of drafting him and Trgovak serving as his DC when he was brought into Carolina.
C. Competition is always good. McCarthy will play young guys if they prove they're the best option. If they want to play, they just need to beat him out.
D. Tramon Williams is playing chicken with his contract situation. IMO the team should have brought in Turner last year and let Grant sign and play as his backup. I'd have a backup plan if Williams' play slips a bit and I'm not sold on Lee, Blackmon or Bush to step it up as defenders.
