Full Version: Houshmandzadeh to the Vikings?

A lot of draft people had decided that Seattle was going to go with Crabtree with their #1 pick. Now, there is noise the Seahawks might sign TJ from Cincy. Interesting. IF they would, would they still want Crabtree, or would they go another direction? Of course, whoever they sign would have to learn how to drop easy catches, since that is the hallmark of Seattle "receivers". Who would they choose instead? Surely, a defensive player to bulwark their anemic defense. Jenkins from OSU? Raji from USC?

Who knows- but this could skew a lot of previous mocks. Unless they still draft Crabtree, and purport to have a dynamic offense! Right. A second WR who could not be first (TJ from Cincy), and Crabtree (allegedly not route certain, and is big on YAC) as a secondary WR. Wow. I'm impressed.

OK, pundits, pencil them in for the SB now. Just like you did San Diego and New York last year.

I would still take Crabtree First TJ is not a number one WR and second he is going to be 32 in Sept.

I really can't stand that team....

12:17 p.m. — Report: Housh heads to Minny
Cincinnati wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is en route from Seattle to Minnesota for a free-agent visit, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Houshmandzadeh met Friday with officials from the Seahawks but failed to strike a deal. The Bengals also remain in the mix to re-sign Houshmandzadeh, although the possibility of a return appears more remote than his signing elsewhere.

In Minnesota, Houshmandzadeh would be paired in the starting lineup with Bernard Berrian, who was a big-money free-agent signing by the Vikings in 2008

THis would be a hell of a scary team offensively if this was the casr. Perterson, and Berrian, Taylor , Housh and Sage.

That would be a HUGE improvement and no doubt make the Vikes the team to beat in 2009 Nort division..

I think he was referring to Thompson's policy of ignoring top tier FAs, not this player in particular.

I understood that. I was just pointing out how ridiculous it was to hammer on TT in a thread that is not related to anything in his control. My use of emoticons is not always spot on so I didn't do it. My bad. smile.gif

So, getting a FA is not in TT's control?

No, preventing Houshmandzadeh from going to the Vikings is beyond his control. Signing a different free agent just because a particular player is being signed, maybe, by another team does not make sense. The topic of this thread has nothing to do with TT, yet people still mention him. What player is TT supposed to sign in response to Houshmanzadeh getting on a plane to Minnesota????

Your right, and I do not think TT even should look a Houshkjljj'hhfio or whatever his name is but often threads stray away and I think the fact that teams in the same division are dabbling in the FA and GB is idle maybe even passive might irritate some.

The answer to "What player is TT supposed to sign in response to Houshmanzadeh getting on a plane to Minnesota????" I think can be summed up into anyone that can fill one of the many holes. So, that could of been an OL, DL, LB, S, P, ST guy?

Dawkins would have been an upgrade, Lewis would be- both are old. I like Phillips from Tampa. A little more proactive on Canty maybe? I see Cole is going for a visit to Seattle maybe.

I realize it is not over yet but this year looks very similar to last years beginning.

Threads stray, but there are plenty of TT is awful for not signing anybody threads in other sections of this board. That comment sort of struck me. I don't know how proactive he is or isn't being. Since nobody has signed or visited we assume that he is sitting in his office twiddling his thumbs.

The last sentence of your post is interesting because last year he was coming off a 13-3 season so I would not have expected him to make a big splash. This year he might be of the impression that what is available in free agency is not as good as what is on the roster (in other words the team is more 13-3 than 6-10). D-line is the one area that I see as being in immediate need of upgrade and it sounds like he is pursuing Canty. Time will tell if he is correct and in the off-season patience is a commodity in short supply.

In the Canty tread I posted an article where he states he will wait and see if GB is still a player in the Canty pursuit after he visits a couple teams. Like I said in that thread, it seems like a pretty passive approach in FA. So twiddling thumbs, probably not and being a charismatic salesman who sells GB and everything the area has to offer, I doubt that too and I base that right off his public appearances.

Would you rather have Houshmanzadeh, or Jennings, Jones and Nelson at WR? Thanks TT. And thanks for re-signing Driver. Good grief, every year, Minny makes a FA "splash"- then makes a post-season crash. Who cares? I'll say it again- either a good first half and a poor second half, or a poor first half and a good second half. Give hope, but never fulfill.

TJ is (purportedly) making his decision by the end of the night.

TJ pared with a speedster like Berrian could be quite dangerous, despite Sage's proclivity to commit turnovers.
Skyshadow
Being concerned that the Vikings might get Houshmanzadeh is reasonable.

Suggesting that this is somehow TT's fault is ridiculous -- I mean, c'mon, do you people even read what you're posting? Are you really that disconnected from reality?

The Packers aren't the Yankees. They can't go out and sign all the good players to keep them out of the hands of other teams. This is pretty basic reality-check stuff, if you ask me.

Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh will sign a multi-year deal with the Seahawks, according to the National Football Post.

Seattle was offering at least $2M more than both the Vikings and Bengals. The 'Hawks were also desperate for a durable wideout. Housh was a flanker in Cincinnati and that's Deion Branch's position in Seattle. Branch could now be moved to the slot or cut, as it was rumored he might be in the winter.

Hooray!!!

The sky is not falling!!!!!

And damn, those Queens must have a crappy GM.
They had interest in a player, offered him more money,
even had him in for a visit, but he signed with the Seahawks.
Or maybe MSP isn't great place to live.

I think I read somewhere that Zigi flew him on his private jet. He probably charged him for a pillow and blanket on the ride there and TJ got upset.

I know you're being sarcastic PatS4, and hey, no one appreciates a good sarcastic comment like me biggrin.gif , but let's not forget that this GM, despite not signing TJ Whosyourmamma has put together two of the top front lines in the NFL. I for one believe that games are won on the front lines. If they somehow land a QB worth a lick one of these days; watch out.

Agree Heat,

Also understand we were a missed field goal from sweeping them.

Rumblings being heard of the Vikings interest in Cutler. That would change things a lot.

Oooh! Don't bring back bad memories. That chubby, overated horse's ass Duante rolling his fumbling little small hands around in that stupid dance. ARRGH! Just when I stopped hating the Vikings for a day. Now I'm reliving thoughts of Johnny Randall diving at Q.B.s knees, and Chris Carter pushing off every time he caught a ball, and crying to the refs when he dropped one. Come to think of it, I'm glad you bought it up. I'm back in the football mode. Go Pack!

Exactly!!!
I don't know why everyone thinks the Queens are so good
and we have crap lines and no depth and our LB's suck.......
I think we're a lot better off than some here will admit.

And I don't believe Cutler is going anywhere,
no matter how badly his feelings were hurt.

You did watch the Packers last year, correct? Their lines were terrible last year; both of them. The Vikings, like it or not are about a QB and a another WR away from being very good. Right now, they're a fringe playoff team like they were last year, but that's more than we can say about the Packers. Just because we almost swept them means nothing. It's the whole, "If team A. beat team B. and we beat team A. then we should be able to beat team B."

Clearly, the NFL doesn't work like that at all. Simply look back to 2007. The Packers were a well-oiled machine on both sides, yet the Bears handled us easily both times. They simply had our number. Does that mean they were the better team? Obviously not.

The fact is right now, today, the Vikings having made the playoffs last year are closer than the Packers. Adding a pro-bowl QB like Cutler would make things even tougher on the green and gold.

No its not. It's we beat team A and we would have swept team A,
if our kicker was right by 2 feet. There's no Team B involved, but nice try.

I agree they were better last year. I agree their lines played better last year
and have higher paid, and SO FAR more productive players.
Didn't YOU watch the Packers last year?
We lost 7 games by 4 or less points.
1 Defensive stop at the end of the game could have led to 3 or 4 more victories.
Our all-pro secondary failed when it most mattered and blew games.
We had more than a couple of injuries last year.

Yes they were better last year and yes Cutler would help them a lot.
I just don't see the Packers as being as bad as our record was.

Were we really as good as 13-3 the year before?
Was Arizona the 2nd best team in the league last year?
Things aren't always as they seem.

Go Pack!!!!

Almost doesn't count.

But hey, we almost swept the Vikings, and we almost won more games last year, and we almost won the Super Bowl against the Broncos, yada yada yada.
