Full Version: Brett Favre vs TT
PackerChatters > PackerChatters > NFL Talk > NFC North > Brett Favre Archives
GregJennings
Brett Favre has talked about wanting to outshine the Packers to prove a point. He didn't do that with his mediocre play, but in his head, being on the stronger team makes him feel like he's winning.

Now, the next season will come and if the Packers do really well, Favre will start to feel like Thompson is winning. The only problem, Favre can do nothing except talk and hope the Packers fail. So now he's going to sit back, making comments on TV (because it's the only thing he can do) while Thompson is out trying to build a winner. And I don't believe for a minute that Favre will sit back on his tractor and stay out of the limelight. He's not the country, farm boy that got off his tractor to play football. He's a diva that can't stay down, has to be in front of the camera. Oh, he'll be out (especially if the Packers falter) and he'll have things to say. If the Packers do well, he won't say a word about it. He'll just say he's happy but it will be a lie like jsut about everything else he's said the last couple years.

He's an angry, bitter man that could be very greatfull for the life he has, but instead is holding an ugly grudge. Thompson is just out doing the best he can at his job, but he (by default) is in this fight. Let the battle begin. I'm rooting for Thompson, but I'm a Packer fan so I guess I would.

Oh, and Favre will not retire his number until Thompson is gone. My impression is that he's that much of a spoiled child, to never let this die.

I hope Favre can put down his fences. He says he understands the business side of the move, but I really dont think he does. I find it strange when I was watching his interview, Werder asked him the following question:

Werder: Would you ask the Jets for your release?

Favre: Mike and Woody have been so good to me over the past year, I couldn't ask them to do that.
********************************************************************************
*************

but it made him furious when he couldnt get his release from the Packers after 16 years??

IMO the door is open for him to market for the Packers. Like McCarthy said, "The train is leaving the station", he missed it the first time, and its leaving the station again. The Packers have offered opportunities to you since your retirement the other day. Keep whining or get on board.

These topics may be getting old and it may be a broken record and beating a dead horse, but.....................

Favre has gone so far out of his way to talk so poorly about Thompson, it is so sad. For a legend of all of football, and yet so spoiled, so brash and so egocentric, he really should be grateful. I am one of many that will not believe he is retired, truly retired until the 2010 season opens. Although by the time 2009 regular season starts, I will be mostly sure. Favre has brought this on his own and along with the lemmings that think he walks on water, make wine from water and workships his every move, these forums will not go away. GregJennings may have been a bit harsh in tone, but many of us agree. Many others vehemently disagree, but that is the way it will always be.

Agree totally with your disagreement.

Why spill this bile and spleen on these boards about the QB that helped resurrect the Packers?

I understand "sour grapes", but I try not to eat them.

I agree, and Brett sure did help the Packers out of the basement in the early 90's, and I am very grateful as a fan that he came to GB. However, it's not as if he begged and pleaded to come to GB, he landed here through a trade brought on by Ron Wolf. The rest is history. I love everything that Brett did for the organization, but sometimes fans make it sound as if he went out of his way to do it. It could have been any team that he ended up on and did it for. Lucky for us it was the Packers.

I think what is meant by what Brett did for the organization is simply that. Of course he could have done it for any team that he went to, but that could be said for any player in the entire history of the NFL. Of course he didn't go out of his way to "pick" Green Bay to be the team that he helped win games. That said, it doesn't lessen his history because he didn't have the opportunity to "pick" which team he would help. Free Agents have some say as to where they go, but nobody has total control over that. I guess I don't see why you brought it up??? Just curious, not arguing.

The sort of people who post this junk are the same sort of people responsible for its very existence.

As long as media gets ratings for this kind of garbage from this kind of person, we all have to endure this feces.

The original post is essentially Trolling. A pile of inflammatory statements trying to perpetuate a pointless argument.

I'm a sports fan. Not a daytime tv show fan.

Although Brett has meant so much to Green Bay, you are absolutely on target. Maybe when #12 hits #85 on an 80 yard strike to open a Super Bowl victory (ala Farve to Rison), this whole deal will cool off. In the mean time, I respect your position on the matter. BPF

I didn't bring anything up. I just responded to a post with my opinion.

Where did I ever say that it should lessen his history?

Not only that, but the "he's an attention-seeking crybaby who won't stop talking trash about..." angle is really taking on a "pot calling the kettle black" sort of vibe.

It never ceases to amaze me how people miss the point on this issue. The whole dispute was based on Thompson and Favre both being very competitive people driven by the desire to be successful, but unfortunately having to deal with different criteria for achieving success. They aren't the reincarnations of evil star wars characters, with hidden agendas and lacking loyalty.

I think when you listen to Brett, it was natural that he wanted to prove Thompson wrong, as well as continue the great feeling that comes with being a successful NFL QB. It seems pretty clear that with the shoulder injury and his declining play, he sees for himself that it is done and over. I don't see him taking "pot shots" at the packers and packer nation as I'm sure he has many fond memories of his time there. Whether or not he makes up with Thompson, I don't see him holding a grudge with the team. The fact that he can look back and say that he played this year in part to try and stick it to Thompson shows that he has thought about it and realizes that it is over in his mind, as he said it in not a defiant tone, but in the tone of someone who calmed down and now had some perspective on the situation that couldn't have been achieved last summer.

We have all made mistakes. Would it be so hard to forgive one of the greatest packer players of all time for whatever mistakes we perceive he made?

At some point he will take the one day contract, retire as a packer, and come back and retire his jersey. That will be a happy day.

Thompson should have been fired for the way he handled the whole fiasco last year. That, coupled with the lack of Offensive lineman and a losing record except for one year would have gotten other GM's canned.

as my sig says.......Fire tt

I really don't want to argue the Favre thing anymore - you and I obviously do not agree and that's fine. I just have one small comment, it's been 1 winning season, 1 .500 season and 2 losing seasons - so it's only 2 losing seasons not 3. I would also say that most GM's, one year removed from the NFC Championship game would not be canned. This year is another story, one more bad year could put everyone's job in jeopardy.

Sounds like you should be calling Murphy since he is the guy who thinks Thompson is doing a great job, thus Thompson is still employed irrespective to your comments about on how he is handling things.
