I have been out of the loop lately (blame my dictator boss). I know FA is about to begin.

Putting all of the TT bashing aside......who should I track (and pray) that the Packers get?

Heatseeker
I wouldn't really count on them getting anyone. Just wait until the draft.

Wish list? Haynesworth, Peppers, Gross, the CB from Oakland (I can't spell his name, much less prounounce it), starts with an As. Lechler, one of the Baltimore LBers (especially Suggs- though I think Scott will be more available). Later, as some "names" are dropped by other teams for cap or age questions, will be advocated by some members of the board (Tomlinson, possibly, etc.) I hope this helps. However, why not check out PC from home, rather than work?
Vinnie
Here is a player that I would like and has been a little under the radar- His season was ended early due to a broken forearm.

oakland wont let go of nnamdi asomugha, they'll franchise him until the end of time. haynesworth will be WAY TOO MUCH MONEY and DTs are known to get lazy when it isnt a contract year. as for gross, i cant see the packers getting into a bidding war with other teams when we can just draft probably a top 3 OT. bart scott will be in high demand and he is going into his 9th season. i think suggs might end up staying with baltimore. i'd say no to tomlinson unless he somehow become dirt cheap, he is on the downside of his career and i think the packers are happy enough with the RBs that we have. in short, i dont think we will sign any big name FAs, maybe one or two as back ups, but nothing really important. must wait for the draft.

I agree with you 100%. However, the question was who would the Packers like to get- not who was likely to land with the team. That is why I put the list up that I did.

That written, expect a fair number of people on here to advocate the signing of some "names" if they become FA's- even if they are over-the-hill, oft injured players who were simply playing for FA.

In a win now league, signing some names that have a year or two of near pro bowl might be the recipe for a championship. The mixture of this and our perrinal youth movement could be a good combination.
Vinnie
Since we are throwing out names and the last one I mentioned was injured, here is another player not mentioned much on this board.

Oshiomogho Atogwe FS Rams

Many of these guys will get resigned I bet.

IMO, Asomugha would probably be my ideal signing (though I'm not holding my breath).

With him, we've got two replacements for Harris and Woodson ready to go and can concentrate on building up our linebackers and defensive line via the draft.

No way the Raiders let him go. He will get tagged and be back with the Raiders unless they get a very good offer to trade him.

Good call Vinnie. I love O.J. Atogwe. Granted I don't watch many Rams games (for good reason) but he is a good player. He will cost you as much as he'll help you, but he's fun the watch. Not the best solution, but I wouldn't have much of a problem with him.

Some plausible, type B free agents are:

Chris Canty, DE http://www.nfl.com/players/chriscanty/profile?id=CAN796581

Igor Olshansky, DE http://www.nfl.com/players/igorolshansky/p...le?id=OLS331314

Mike Wright, DE/DT http://www.nfl.com/players/mikewright/profile?id=WRI572219

Ray Willis, RT http://www.nfl.com/players/raywillis/profile?id=WIL620813

Shaun Cody, DT http://www.nfl.com/players/shauncody/profile?id=COD576791

Marques Harris, OLB http://www.nfl.com/players/marquesharris/p...le?id=HAR477095

These players are all possible, UFA's scheduled to hit the market this coming year. Hope this helps.

I believe this sounds a lot like what many are saying about Bigby.

Why not keep what we have.

Go Pack!!!

I think Bigby can be that guy so long as he can stay healthy, but Atogwe IMO is a step up from Bigby and Phillips is one more above Atogwe.

Didn't TT show a little interest Madieu Williams last year? I like these 2 options better than him.

I think Bigby has shown as much as he will ever do. Bigby when healthy at best has questionable coverage skills often finding himself out of postion and ever know and then will make a big hit. I would rather have a saftey that can cover then one who plays out of postion but can hit.

maybe you would like Atogwe, he gets his fair share of interceptions. 75 tackles and 5 interceptions last year.

Collins had 58 tackles and 7 interceptions

Ed Reed 34 tackles 9 interceptions

Bigby 15 tackles 1 interception 7 games so that is a pace of 34-35 tackles

These are solo tackles.

generally speaking, i feel like there are more high quality players available this year than last, at least at the top tier of FAs.

remember last season, people were clamoring for Deon Grant types? i don't know if we'll land or even target any of these guys, but this year's crop sure seems better. sure teams will still have to flagrantly overpay, but at least they'll (probably) be getting a top quality player.

Decent list...

Anybody else think Dunta kind of has a Mertin Hanks look about him?
