Wow what a mess in Detroit. They traded Shaun Rodgers to Cleveland for Bodden and a 3rd. Now after just one year they are releasing the guy. So essentially the Lions traded one of the best DTs in the NFL for a 3rd round draft pick. I heard during the Week 2 game against the Lions that Thompson was interested in Bodden as part of a package with the Corey Williams trade. I wonder if Thompson still has any interest in him. He's coming off a bad year in Detroit but pretty much every player has their worst years in Detroit and thus he could be had for less money than normal. He was a solid corner in Cleveland and is only 27 years old. Chad Johnson said Bodden was the toughest corner he faced in 2005, which was only Bodden's 2nd year in the NFL. He could add depth while Pat Lee develops. Our secondary was in trouble this year. What do you think?

I would think that the more competition, the better- let them fight it out.

I don't think our secondary was that bad this year.

Yes they gave up a few big plays at the end of a couple games,
but overall they were the brightest spot on our defense.

12th in pass yds per game
t3 rd in int's (6 for TD's)
5th in yds per rec
4th in QB rating

This all despite a poor year from the DL (25th in sacks),
injuries to Harris, Woodsen, Collins and Bigby,
and a position switch by CWood.

Three of our starters earned Pro Bowl honors (Harris was a sub).

That said if we can get Bodden at a decent price (TT's way)
it would not be a bad thing.

Go Pack!!!

Bodden would be a decent pickup, but I bet he could be the 3rd CB somewhere in the league (possibly even a starter), and in GB I don't see him beating out Tramon Williams for the 3rd spot. So I doubt he'd even sign with the Pack.
dictator of logic
Are we debating whether we should pick up retreads from the Detroit Lions? smile.gif Seriously, Bodden isn't too bad, but I don't think he'll be anymore than #4, and I would hope Pat Lee steps up a bit this year too. I would say no, unless we decide to trade Al Harris (which I would probably disagreee with).

I also would not like to see Harris traded, but I also think it is likely to happen. He's getting up there in terms of age (football years are like dog years). Its also an open question if his skill set is amenable to the zone defense likely to be played in the 3-4. So, if Bodden was signed, he'd likely be a nickel back, with Williams the starter, and with Lee in development. Unless the Packers draft Jenkins or another CB in the first day of drafting. With Bodden, its doubtful if the Packers would go for another CB early on, unless someone they really liked fell into their laps in the later rounds.

To expand on your post a bit, Ricky: My understanding is that Leigh Bodden struggled to adapt to the Tampa 2 defense, specifcally the zone coverage schemes. He played very well as a bump and run corner with the Browns. He has skills and maybe needs more time to adjust (and maybe better coaching?). That said, I don't think he would be a good FA pickup at this time what with our young CB's waiting in the wings as other posters have stated already.
OH Packer revisited
IMO you're not going to lure a FA who was a starter to compete for the 3rd or 4th spot (depending on what happens with Harris, who I think they should keep). Whether you view him as a starter or not. I bet he views himself as a starter and I bet there would be a few teams who would too. I don't see it.

I meant in regards to injuries. Keep in mind that KGB and Tracy White were cut yet Jarrett Bush still remained on the roster. To me that is a problem.

I agree with letting KGB go, but Tracy White was a surprise
(especially as you stated because Bush was kept).

Go Pack!!
