Full Version: Terrell Suggs > Peppers

He played 3-4 in Baltimore, he was excellent in that scheme, he will bring experience in it to GB

Peppers is unproven as a 3-4 linebacker or 3-4 DE

Suggs is younger and will probably be cheaper than Peppers

All this is moot if Baltimore franchises him, though. And Suggs said he wants to return to the Ravens.

But hopefully they won't franchise him, and how can anyone pass up Wisconsin weather?

Suggs would be a great addition to our team. I doubt we could land him though. As you mentioned, I heard he also is happy in Baltimore and has no plans on leaving. I would love to see him in Green and Gold though!

I think when McCarthy and Thompson talk about making their free agent big board, Suggs needs to be listed at the top, especially with the recent change in defensive philosophy.

By the bye, I am pretty sure that the Ravens cannot franchise tag Suggs this year.

And if I recall correctly, they are also going to have some CAP troubles.

Anyone have any info on this?

I like your enthusiasm, however, I think you have cited three strikes against the Packers signing Suggs.

Strike 1: "Suggs....will probably be cheaper than Peppers"
I actually laughed aloud when I read this. What would give you that idea? Suggs is younger and more effective in the 3-4; as you noted, Peppers is not. Why would his youth and experience in the system make him cheaper than Peppers?

Strike 2: "All this is moot if Baltimore franchises him, though."
Whether the Ravens can franchise him or not, the third strike is one you also made...

Strike 3: "...Suggs said he wants to return to the Ravens."
Again, I really like your enthusiasm and your optimism, but, quite simply, I don't see it happening. Suggs faced this same situation a few years ago, and opted to stay in Baltimore. Also, since he is a returning player, I believe the Ravens have some leeway within the salary cap to re-sign him. Besides, a creative contract can do wonders for your salary cap.

Thanks, I am enthusiastic about this, even if it is unrealistic. I need to be enthusiastic about something this offseason...

Imo, Peppers probably will be more expensive because he has been more productive overall than Suggs.

Still, highly unlikely Packers get anyone noteworthy, if the past tells us anything (except Woodson and Pickett)

Don't discount Peppers' speed. He ran a 4.68 while Suggs clocked in at 4.65. Peppers is athletic to make the switch and other teams are going to be less willing to shell out the big bucks on him if he want to play OLB. I'd say our hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense would be perfect for him. Why not take a chance on a stud.

Anybody know the severity of his shoulder injury? Heard it was pretty bad...

Suggs will be in Arizona or stay with Baltimore, and Peppers is just saying he wants to play in a 34 to get more money from the Panthers or any other 43/cover 2 team.
dictator of logic
Suggs apparently wants to stay in Baltimore and has hinted that he would give a hometown discount to the Ravens if they also attempt to retain Bart Scott and Ray Lewis.

If the Ravens are having cap problems, will they be able to do that though? That's a tall order if you have money available!

i'd love to see Terrell Suggs here, but i'm all for players wanting to stick with thier old teams and who aren't all about the money. so if Terrell can stay with baltimore, good for him and his D, but if he's got to go then i sure hope he comes to green bay.

In your opinion? Do you have anything to prove that statement?

Baltimore's only $4.7 M under the cap.

Baltimore has a lot of key FA this year, more holes than fingers to plug them.

Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott, Jason Brown; and safety Jim Leonhard

you can have all the LBers you want in the world but if you don't have linemen in front of them to allow them to do what they do best, they will be ineffective.

If the Ravens can't reach a new deal with Terrell Suggs by Thursday, they will use the franchise tag on the Pro Bowl linebacker-defensive end, general manager Ozzie Newsome said today.
