Ok with all the discussion surrounding some big FA names that TT will or will not go get. It has been recent history for TT not to break the bank and overpay for anybody other than 'his' guys. FA signings out of the gate are not seeing a lot of cake to come to Green Bay.

So...... with that said...does anybody have a list of likely candidates TT may actually seriously go after. As much as we want to see some money spent and a name like Peppers or Haynesworth brought in, they would be considered top level FA signings...so who is available that has upside and potential but TT doesn't have to throw a lot of cash at? Look at any of his FA signings and they are of that mold.

What 2nd tier FA signings might TT see value in for his dollar? Not that I want to see 2nd tier, but I think thats what we will get so TT can sign Jennings Collins et al. and have cash for his 40 or so Draftees he would like to collect.

here is a list, by position of a lot of FAs. It isnt 100% of them, but it does have more well known players.

If anyone can find a more comprehensive list, do share. This list is a bit old as well, some of the top prospects are listed in the other category and have played very well this season.

I would like to see an effort made for:
Chris Canty DE Cowboys
Shaun Cody DT Lions
OJ Otagwe S Rams

I think these guys would not break the bank and would push our current players. They arent the top names, but they are quality players.

Tank Johnson is pretty intruiging. Ane he's only 27. Looks like he has cleaned up his act somewhat, staying out of trouble for more than a year.

I'd like to see...

DE Igor Olshansky
DT Ryan Sims
OT Jordan Gross
P Shane Lechler or Hunter Smith
Vinnie
You can take Jonathan Babineaux off the list.

He is intense, anybody see "Hard Knocks" on HBO with Dallas this season?

This is a more comprehensive list of FA's, but is also LESS accurate as some players have been extended already by their current team. It's useful, however, if you have the time and choose to research players at a given position. Good luck.

Not a big need position but I'm intrigued by Darren Sproles as well as Owen Daniels

Upgrade at TE is not a need position?

I was referring to the RB position

I think the TE position needs a major overhaul. Finley looks promising but is still raw. Humphrey stayed healthy and had what twelve catches. Lee who I like is more of a recieving TE. With Lee you no what you are getting. A solid player that has already hit his ceiling. I just think the Pack could improve this position. I am not for trading for Tony Gonzalez ( although I was hoping the Pack would acquire him at the trading deadline) Owen Daniels from Houston would be a very nice addition. Just my opinion.

I believe Bigby and Montgomery are both UFA's and I can see one or both not being resigned by TT. I like Bigby, but he injury prone and therefore I can see TT taking a Safety with the #1 or #2 pick-especially if TT trades down. I love see Mays pick-if TT trades down. However, I prefer Jenkins CB option (long shot hoping he slip down to #9). SAid would allow Woodson too take over Bigby slot an have the preseason to refine his knowledge of sane, and gamble on Rouse gains more seasoning for his future repacement. Botton-line, I prefer experience over youth!

Montgomery may have saved his job over the last couple games, but I not been impressed that he's the answer (plus, I expect Montgomery would like to test the open market)? Luckly, C Jenkin's return will help, but there's not much left should he fall too injury. The problem, the Packer's youth movement creats a issue with experience factor. Can a rookie fill same, time will tell?

Bigby is a RFA but he is still worthless. He is injury prone and can only hit people not cover them. Though I still would like Jenkins have Jenkins and Tramon at CB and Woodson and Collins at saftey then have Harris be the 3rd CB if he does not like that he is cut.

Not only would you start a CB that isn't as good in Williams but you would start a rookie also?

I can't fathom how you missed Harris's GREAT play last season. He was BY FAR our most consistent CB.

Cutting or trading Harris would make an awful defense even worse. Sounds like something Sit Tight would do blink.gif

Al Harris was not great. At best average. He is a old player who is slow and if you watch more and mroe WR run by him.

You seem you be very negative about Packer players in general - is there any players on the roster you like?

Only players I have blasted on are Harris and Bigby. Harris is getting old it happens to everyone. Bigby was just overhyped last year and I said that then.

Agreed.

If someone like Orakpo or the DE from Georgia Tech isn't there, I'd love to see Taylor Mays in green and gold. The guy has stud written all over him.
OH Packer revisited
Harris is still significantly better than Tramon Williams. I hold onto him one more year.

Considering we have MAJOR needs on both lines, I'm sticking to an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach with almost everything else. I'll certainly take upgrades if we can get them, but I wouldn't say we need a major overhaul at tight end.

A relatively inexpensive free agent I'm interested in is Jim Kleinsasser. None of our tight ends excel as blockers and, while Hall and Kuhn are assignment-sure and steady guys, neither of them can move people down around the goal line. I think Kleinsasser could fill the role of that #2 FB/#3 TE and really help the running game lining up in both positions.

Imagine Sproles behind Rodgers on 3rd down. Driver, Jennings, & Jones/Nelson are wide, and Finley at TE.

That is the kind of 3rd down RB MM has needed all along. Instead of that empty backfield on 3rd and med/long, now MM would have the threat of run/pass, keeping the defense honest.

I'd be shocked if TT actually paid good $ for a 5'6" 181lb. RB though, so, I'm not getting my hopes up on Sproles.

I think Brandon Jackson is a fine 3rd down back. The offensive line is what needs to improve for us to be a run/pass threat on 3rd down. I love Sproles, but wouldn't spend a lot of money on him.

Kleinsasser is a beast. He's bigger than some Defensive Ends. Plus he isn't completely useless as a receiver either, he could run some people over.

Yeah, I haven't seen him catch passes in a while before he did the other day against Philadelphia and I was pleasantly surprised at how decently he moved and got up field. I think his versatility and usefulness as a blocker could really give us a boost in the run game and down on the goal line.
