I'd love to see the Packer's get a hold of him this offseason as a change of pace back and third down back. Im sure he'll want to be a starter somewhere, not sure what type of interest he will draw if he wants to be a starter. Id probably overpay somewhat for him, he creates such a mismatch on third downs and coming out of the backfield, You don't see many FA's going from San Diego to Green Bay, but I'd love to see it.

GM, I dont see how Sproles would ever be considered for a starting RB even by himself in the NFL. The only reason I would want him is for KRs.
I used to watch him in HS and college and he was a pretty good back at those 2 levels but it never translated to the NFL.

I think Sproles could be a starting back in the NFL, but with the two-back system, the value of a feature back has somewhat diminished. The guy has a 4.9 career rushing average and is only 25 years old. He has incredible speed, and his lack of height often times works for him, as he is able to hide behind his blockers.
The problem for him is that he is backing up this generations epitome of feature back.
He might have gotten a lot of his action in "garbage minutes," but that is what they said about Michael Turner as well.
Sproles has game, and with few wear and tear on those tires, he could be a mighty attractive back. I think he has more talent than Leon Washington, and he has been a pretty important contributor for the Jets. In a system similar to, say, Tennessee, Jacksonville, or NY, he could be quite effective.

need need a big back, not a quick one. Plus Sproles will not leave for FA.

Agreed with Packman.
I think B-Jax has at least the physical skills of Sproles. Plus, I doubt SD will let him go. LT's time is wearing thin and I think they'll spend the money to keep Sproles in town and keep LT fresh.

Anyone else think Sproles can't be a feature back?
Man, that guy just made some money tonight despite the fumble in the fourth.
I loved this guy coming out of college, and I stand by what I wrote above: he can be a feature back in this league.

Yes, finally SD finally beat Indy. Congratulations to them. However, on to the topic at hand. Sproles is 5'6". Gimme a break. An every down back? Or a back that breaks down every down?
Sorry, but I can't take this suggestion seriously. Good grief, Bob Sanders (the Colts DB) is a great player- when healthy. Unfortunately, he is only healthy for part of each season. I believe he is approximately 5'8". Are you going to tell me a 5'6" RB is going to last (at least) 16 games?

Ricky,
I really enjoy your opinion, but this is a time when you need to do your homework.
For the most part, San Diego owns the Colts.
Last year, they beat them (at home) to advance to the AFC Championship Game. They also beat them that year in Week 10.
In 2005, San Diego beat them in the regular season during Week 15, ending their undefeated streak.
The Colts' win this year--the three point win as time expired in Week 12--was the first time the Colts beat the Chargers in a long time.
Manning typically struggles against a 3-4, but he--in particular--struggles against the Chargers.
As for Sproles, which is the main point of this thread, he played great.
Again, I think he can be a great feature back, and once again, I think his small size is a benefit in conjunction with his speed.

Its not always the size of the dog in the fight, sometimes its the size of the fight in the dog. He would have a better chance of playing 80% of the snaps than Justin Harrell.

Sproles is a third down back. he would not make it half a season if you made him feature back.

Barry Sanders, Warrick Dunn and Brian WestBrook all come to mind.

Either way, we'll find out whether he's a featured back or not. Because someone will sign him, no doubt about it.

The height thing, IMO, is waaaay overrated in a back. In fact, I think the taller guys sometimes take more punishment and can be just as risky from an injury standpoint. I prefer the shorter backs, they change direction easier, better balance and lower center of gravity, shorter stride...plus they can be really difficult for the linebackers and safties to pick up at times, just tough to locate. There are lots of advantages there. DeAngelo Williams is another short guy excelling right now.
That being said, Sproles height doesnt bother me...he is a bit light though. I think he would be best used in a 2 back system. But just about everyone uses multiple backs these days, you almost have to. I'd love to see Sproles as a Packer.

Agreed.
I'm not sure he's a true workhorse, A. Peterson-type of back, but I think he'd be great in a system like the Jags have with MoJo or like you said, DeAngelo Williams in Carolina.
I'd love to have a verstatile 1-2 punch at RB that you can adjust their workload per game based on the defense you're facing.
Need more speed, you give Sproles more carries
More power, you give Grant more
Could work out nice.

Bottom line is when Sproles is in the game he makes the most of it. He can change a game be it as a RB or on special teams. Grant + Sproles would be a great 1-2 punch. I can't see the Chargers letting him go with out a fight but if he becomes available he would be a good investment.
The O-line needs some upgrading before any RB can play to his potential. Sproles will probably get more money than the Pack is willing to give up due to the fact that they need more help at other positions.
It could happen but I really doubt it.

I was getting ready to post the possibility of going after Sproles. I would love to see him in GB. His return ability alone would greatly improve our average starting field position. What on earth does his height have to do with anything???
The guy is a player. Period.

Ok we have our own Sproles already. I think Jackson can be a good fast back he just needs more touches.
