Full Version: QBs?

A lot of us are not pleased with our QB situation behind Rodgers. We think TT screwed up when he didn't sign a vet QB to back up Aaron. Yes, they offered Culpepper a contract but Daunte turned it down thinking he'd start somewhere. laugh.gif So besides Culpepper what other FA QBs are out there? The only reason I can think of that is preventing TT from looking at other QBs is that they feel none of the guys out there are really any better than the 2 rookies we already have! Can this be true??? blink.gif

Not now.

But at the beginning of free agency there were options like Quinn Gray, Frerrotte, Fitzpatrick, Griese, Leftwich, Harrington.

At the very least, Craig Nall.

Wow. First, I believe TT and MM had a chance to check out these QB's, and passed. Also, I'm not sure Griese was ever available. I think Chris Simms was the real option from Tampa.
Out of this group, Frerotte is possibly the best option out of a dismal bunch of failures. Gray, Leftwich, Harrington- these would be upgrades? Possibly minimally. But if you're thinking long term, that means you need to open up a roster spot for one of these QB's, and have them take snaps behind Rodgers, rather than one of the two rookies. And would either Packers rookies made it to the practice squad?
I know- I left out Fitzpatrick. Simply becuase I have no idea who you're referring to. TT knew of these possibilities before the season, and, in consultaion with MM (I truly believe this happened), they chose the path they did. So many on here want to lay the "QB problems" solely at the feet of TT. IF someone has some kind of proof that MM had no voice whatsover in deciding who he would be coaching every week, and that TT totally controlled the roster of QB's, fine. In the meantime- this is less group of QB's is less appetizing than unrefrigerated beer left in the hot sun for several hours.

First of Griese was a UFA. He was with the Bears and now with Tampa so he was available. Second I do think these guys would represent an upgrade over Flynn. He is not ready to play QB in the NFL yet IMO. We probably could ahve stashed him on the PS and had Brohm as our 3rd stringer for a year or two so he could develop, then earn the number 2 spot.

I think sometimes TT is blinded by his love of youth that he passes on older players that could help this team.

I actually think it was worse than that.

I have never seen a situation where a team started a QB for his first year, and then backed him up with two rookies.

I don't understand it. If Rodgers goes down for any long period of time, our season is done. And TT should have known that. Because 90% of all rookie quarterbacks are not ready to start.

If TT was so determined to start AR and dismiss Favre then he should have signed someone like Gus F. or Fitzpatrick. Then he would not have had to draft two QB's and could have used a pick on a DT to replace Williams.

But if you ask me, if TT was not going to sign a veteran, then he should have never done what he did with Favre. Its simply too dangerous, like playing Russian Roulette with the season.

With Favre backed by AR, we had the best QB duo in the NFL. Now, we really have no back up.
