That's an interesting little tidbit I've never heard in these Podcasts. Where did you play collegiately? I was recruited and offered scholarships for libero at Ball St. and IPFW, and could have walked on at Loyola, but decided to stick close to home and go to Marquette so my competitive playing days (outside of the occasional beach tournament) ended there. I still coach full time though.

Ah, the volleyball glory days. I played in high school (poorly), but played enough to play 4 years at Wheaton College in Wheaton IL. We were a club team, but we played Division I to III schools around the midwest. Having lived in Milwaukee and Madison, I played in doubles and triples tournaments all over Wisconsin. Years ago, they included Slammin A Rama in Racine, grass tournaments on the west side of Milwaukee and beach in Milwaukee and Chicago. Now, I just play for fun at the Waupaca Boatride Tournament at the Dells.

Since I can't play anymore, I do assist coach a high school team in Madison. That does just enough to keep my competitive juices going (and it saves the shoulder).

I missed Waupaca this year because I was up in Eagle River. I'm hoping to go next year.

Wow Dave, more in common than I thought. I too played men's club ball in college, coached for two years at Ashwaubenon HS but I still play weekly, have to pretend to stay in shape some how.

I keep seeing this as the #1 topic here and think it is about me. Curse you mom and dad for naming me such a common name. I assure you I am the worst v-ball player ever. Steven Hawking once said that I suck. laugh.gif

I just played in a volleyball tournament with Anthony Davis, Kimble Anders and George Brett last weekend.

I wont lie though. I was there for "scenery" not to play volleyball.

Wheaton? Good school.

Sorry for staying off topic and talking about volleyball, but I must share this information for those volleyball players out there in WI. This year's Waupaca tournament was a joke. Unfortunately, the goal of the tournament is to sign up as many teams as possible without regard for whether they have the appropriate amount of space. Last year, we were pinned in next to a building and the playing surface wasn't level. This year, they had to move some of courts (not all) to an area that was 20% grass and 80% dirt. That would be ok if it didn't rain the night before. That makes it 100% mud - and deep mud.

I find it laughable that the tournament coordinators said "we can't predict the weather". I suppose if I were a volleyball tourament coordinator, I would expect that there would be some probability that it could rain and plan accordingly.

So, I will not play at Waupaca again. Please pass it on to your friends.

Now that I am off my volleyball soap box, I can concentrate on the Packers.
