As Always take Pro Football Talk with a pound of salt
*********************************************************************
FAVRE SITUATION SUDDENLY GETS WEIRD

As it turns out, that dark cloud in Wisconsin could quickly become a storm.

Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Favre wanted to play another year, but that he felt like the Packers didn't want him.

Uh-oh.

"I know he wants to play one more year," Cook said. "I do not know much conversation there was and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it."

Uh-oh.

"I think he wanted to play," Cook said. " I think he's still got it. He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."

Uh-oh.

Asked whether Favre could be talked into returning, Cook said, "I don't know."

Well, maybe the media speculation that the guy who brought Favre to Green Bay, former G.M. Ron Wolf, might be whispering to Bill Parcells about trying to get Favre to Miami is more accurate than we initially thought. Because if Favre wants to play another year and if it's not with the Packers, then maybe it will be elsewhere.

But if Favre doesn't play for the Packers in 2008, either because he's playing for someone else or not playing at all, we think that there could be an enormous backlash against the team. Specifically, G.M. Ted Thompson could find himself in the crosshairs of the fans' criticism.

Never mind the fact that Thompson has done an excellent job; the perception that he ran off Brett Favre could be the quickest ticket out of town for Thompson.

If, in the end, Thompson gets saddled with the brunt of the blame for Favre's departure, the pressure on Thompson to leave, too, will be tremendous. And, as a practical matter, it will put him on an incredibly short leash if the team falters in 2008.

Uhh, isn't Brett signed with the Packers through 2010?

This story almost doesn't deserve a response...but here goes.

First, Cook's supposed quotes go from "knowing" Favre wantd to play, to "thinking" he wanted to play. Big difference. Which one is true?

Second, if, as Favre said, he viewed a Superbowl win as the only scenario worth coming back for, why in the world would he sign with at team (Miami) that won 1 game last year?

Does not compute.

Florio is trying to strat a fire.

Of course Favre feels he can play PHYISCALLY, but as all the other reports say it is the mental challenge Favre doesn't know if he'd be up to, again.

What Florio doesn't put in his "piece" is how Cook says is Al Jones (the writer and Favre friend in Mississippi) says that Favre won't play any other team besides Green Bay because he loves it in Green Bay. (per JSOnline)

In the end, he's under contract to the Green Bay Packers till 2010-2011.

It would take the franchise releasing him or trading him. He can't just retire and sign with Miami, it doesn't work that way.

Pure BS story imo.

And TT has been in the crosshairs of fans criticism ever since he got here. Thats not exactly ground breaking journalism by ProFootballtalk.

"Nobody pushed Brett Favre out the door, but then nobody encouraged him not to go out that door, either," Cook said by phone from his Hattiesburg, Miss., office.

What exactly is Bus Cook trying to accomplish making a statement like this??? As Favre's agent, does he take a big financial hit with the retirement...is that reason for spouting off to the media...greed? Favre told both Mortenson and Mariucci this morning that he's leaving the game because he is mentally tired...but apprently that's not a good enough reason for some people. Sheesh...the guy can't even retire without the media stirring up controversy...and this one started by his agent no less.

first off, PFT will NOT be the only media outlet to create something like this.

Having said that, hypothetically, lets say brett does want to play another season with another team... Does anyone really believe he would want to go to Miami???

No. But, this is just ridiculous anyways...

Maybe it's his way of saying, "hey NE, IND, SD, Dallas, even GB! If your starting QBs happen to get hurt bad during the playoff run, there's a HOF QB out there who would love to take a SB shot with your team!"

Packers own his rights he would have to convince the Packers to relase him.
