This game sure reminds me of the 1999 NFC Championship game.
The dreaded vikings had just had a great season, they had whipped up on arizona to get to the NFC title game. They were big favorites against the dirty birds. They had an aging quarterback, and they blew it, in overtime. That's probably the most painful loss in vikings history. When Randall Mcdaniel was interviewed after retiring, they asked if he had any regrets, and he said "I have one, taking a knee in the NFC title game"
I was a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas for about 10 years. One night I dealt to ex-vikings CB Robert Griffith. He was a nice guy, he said that game was incredibly tough to take, everyone was confident, and that the team was NEVER the same after that game, it hurt that much.
This years loss reminds me of that. I hope the after results aren't the same.
I love the packers with every fiber of my being. My dad is from milwaukee, and went to St. Norbert College, he worked at lambeau for 5 years. He knew guys from the 60's packer teams. My dad bet a guy when i was 5 that i could name 10 packers. He won the bet. I have an entrie room in my house painted green and gold, i have ten jerseys and 6 packer fatheads. I really hope they are back next year, but honestly they had a great year, but those first games this year, just about all of them but the giants game could have gone the other way. The NFL is tough with free agency, so getting back there year after year is really tough. Look at the bears, same team as last year, and they stunk this year (execept against us). I think some of us need to realize that we blew a chance on a HUGE scale. I think this loss was even tougher than Super Bowl XXXII.
As for this season, my goodness what a ride. We have Brett to thank for that. That loss hurt so much (i was in the stands, the last field goal of regulation would have hit me if the net wasn't up) i really wondered if i would have rather they missed the playoffs. That's of course not the case, it was 100x better than the 4-12 season from a few years ago, and there were a lot of good games they played. It was quite a season. I really wish brady would have gotten hurt early, then i really think brett would have won another MVP. I for one hope he really comes back. I'm also thinking it might have been better to play dallas. The cold really got to brett, also the giants were monsters on the road. Dallas really struggled, we might have been able to jump on them early. Don't get me wrong i went crazy when New York beat Dallas, but hindsight is 20/20.

Yes, the 99 Championship game did cross my mind when I reflected on the loss the other day. The Vikings were favored, has a great season, and the underdog Falcons (who were on a hot streak themselves) forced an overtime game. They won on a Morton Anderson field goal, which was a fairly long one too, if I remember right.

It didnt remind me of that. The Vikings were far and away the superior team. We were not. Say what you want, but the Giants had the talent to be in the NFC Championship, and the talent to play with the packers. I know, i know, we beat them 35-13 in the meadowlands, but they were also 3-5 at home, and 10-1 and the road this year, so it wasnt surprising to me that the pack lost. But, i know im in the minority.

No, not completely. At least, if you're in the minority, you're not there all alone.

I'd have to say the difference between us and the Giants in the Championship Game is that we were streaking and they were peaking. We had just pulled off a season where we would lose once in about every five weeks. They came in playing their best ball of the season and their last loss could have been a win versus the patriots. In my opinion we were the more talented team and the more physical team. They are also a talented and physical group. In the elements we were both as talented, but they were far more physical. Pushing our lineman into the running backs, pounding the ball through corners like Woodson, and body to body taking the one on ones for Plaxico Burress. Next year we need to find away to get more stability in the run game, because that was the biggest problem of 2007. It seems everytime we start to get only 1-3 yards on the first carry of a drive, then we will surely punt. Hopefully, in next years Championship Game they will be for more than 30 yards a pop. But, I see us only getting better. GO PACK
