Patty was right Manuel is not the answer

Patty was very vocal during the offseason that she thought Marquand Manuel was a questionable signing. (I'd go back and get quotes but the boards went down since then.) From what I remember, she made some pretty scathing comments about Manuel's lack of coverage speed and ability, and wasn't happy about the signing at all.
Most of us, myself included, remained optimistic that it would pan out and gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Well, I just wanted to say that you were right, Patty. When you're willing to stick your neck out and make bold statements like that you need to be congratulated when you were right.
I'm thinking we'll draft a safety in the second round in April (looking forward to hearing Patty's thoughts on the prospects), and will probably sign a mid-level free agent safety too. Hopefully it will work out in '07. If Underwood comes back and looks as good as he did last July and August, it wouldn't hurt either.

I'VE read Patty from afar before I joined this site. I won't question her wisdom either. I also was pleased, and then dissapointed with the Manuel signing. She is the guru. I did want the Pack to spend some of their salarly cap on signing Hutchison from SEA. , although his price was outrageous for a guard, but you can't bank the cap money. We spent about the same on Charles Woodson, I guess I would like to hear an evaulation on comparing the 2, investment wise.

I still don't think Roman was the answer either or much better, but it's very clear that Manuel is a good deal worse than Roman.
I've also read that some think that the scheme Sanders is running leaves Manuel and Collins alone on an island too often, and that plays directly into their weaknesses.
Either way, Manuel is not a good fit for our team, and he has cost us several big gains.

No doubt that Hutch is a perennial pro-bowler, but the Packers could have kept another pro-bowl caliber O-guard, named Mike Wahle, for about 1/2 the price Hutch cost the Vikes. Yet.............TT chose to go a different route.
Time will tell how his "rebuilding" philosophy will work out.

I don't know if it is Manual or the scheme, maybe BOTH are not a fit........
AS far as the two guards, Wahle is the better proto type than Hutch in the zone scheme.....as good as Hutch is, he is NOT a good fit for this scheme.
I've been thinking on Patty...........
I can't recall her being wrong or over the top.........
MANY times some have disagreed....but of course THEY didn't know $hit
Atta girl Patty....................AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's been pretty good thus far. I think she underestimated Spitz a bit, was spot on with Corey Rogers, and was pretty high on Hodge, but he's pretty irrelevant at this point. He hasn't been doing much of anything well, not even sure if he's on special teams anymore.
That's what makes this site so nice - we have access to experienced people like Patty with expanded insights about players, especially at the college level.

"I'm thinking we'll draft a safety in the second round in April" Why not grab Landry in the first round? Many mocks have that happening.

what about Reggie Nelson - I like him more than Landry
Say we end up with a 10 to 12 pick - Nelson might be the best player on the board.
I think we need a corner as Harris has 1 more good year left and Woodson while e came on still worries me an awful lot.
This team need a quality receiver who runs patterns the way they are diagrammed and will be where they are suppose to be. But not in round 1
I still think we can get 1 more year out of Clifton but OT might be a call as well.
I know I am in the minority but I think Leon Hall is legit and would consider him But if my money is on the line I would have to select Reggie Nelson

Patty any FA's that you feel would be good for the Packers. Do you look to Thompson to be active this year?
