One reason I became a fan of the Green Bay Packers is because of the loyalty and passion of the fans. I'm from Philly, born and raised, and seeing how the Eagles fans treat other fans led me to following another team. I've been to Green Bay twice to watch the Packers, and never have I met such generous and kindhearted people. That being said, the way some of the fans acted yesterday put the worst feeling in the pit of my stomach. Booing Brett Favre? 95% of the crowd was booing Brett Favre. Why? Have we forgotten this man single handedly turned the whole Packers organization into a winner. Where were the Packers before he came to Green Bay. A coffin with Brett Favre laying in it during the pre game? Favre saying fans were giving him the middle finger when he walked off the bus! This makes me SICK! Where is the class that I've grown to love. I'm sorry, but that is just inexplainable! I came into this game with mixed emotions not knowing how Favre would be treated! He didn't deserve this! I'm actually glad he went on the field and shut some of you fans up with his performance!

Classless!!!

A bit hard to take you seriously after a statement like that.

I was actually a little disappointed to see that much purple in the stands. At least it looked that way on TV.

I think people have a right to be upset with Favre for a number of reasons, not the least of which is this...Where was this the last 5 years? Or even 10 years. Mistake Free Brett was nowhere to be found in Green Bay the last decade or And now he's just pleased as punch to mentor the young players on the team, too. Now...finally... at the age of 40 he decides to play within himself, to take what is there and not try to force things. To help the young guys on the team out instead of sitting in his ivory tower by himself. I'm sure Jets fans are not too thrilled either.

I suppose next you're going to tell me he's not going to have his annual 2nd half swoon or choke in the playoffs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

That is what disgusted me the most. I couldn't believe how many people sold their tickets to Vikings fans, especially the endzone seats.

I was also at the game as I have on numerous occasions. First of all, it is not unusual to see many Viking fans at Lambeau Field no matter what season. A certain amount of tickets for any game are alloted to the visiting team. The Vikings are on a roll right now and it stands to reason they are now supporting their team. They have a loyal fan base and more than their share of front runners. As I said to the fans in front of me after the game, "Enjoy it while you can."

Last of all, Green Bay fans were the only ones standing in the dome two years ago. The Viking fans left and the visitors took over. Green Bay is well represented on most road games. So it is not unique to sell your tickets to a broker or via ebay. I have purchased my season tickets from ebay for 5 seasons now and pay a premium for them. There are many season ticket holders who sell because they are too old to go to the games and will not give up their rights to their tickets. So they sell them to brokers who in turn sell them to fans regardless of their team affliliation.

By the way, I did not boo Brett because of my respect for the past 16 years. It was my decision and I had no problems with the fans who did.

Uh ... OK, it wasn't pleasant pictures and some of the comments were hearsay, but his initial premise is right on. This crap about the magical Saint Favre swooping in and saving a franchise single handed is ridiculous. Had 1991-94 Favre ended up in a big city he would have been a gigantic dud. Imagine him on the Bungals or the New York Football Jets with Rich Kotite, or one of the other hapless teams in the NFL.
As lucky as Green Bay was to get him, he was equally lucky to end up on in a small town and coached by Mike Holmgren, who should go to the Hall of Fame just based on his work with QBs (Favre, Young, Montana, Brunell, Hasselbeck). Speaking of Brunell, Favre played his way so close to being benched in 1994 that Holmgren had to stake his NFL coaching career on the guy because everyone else on the staff wanted Brunell.

Frankly, I was proud of Green Bay fans on Sunday. The whole "How could they, with all Favre did for the Packers" theme is insulting, as if it was charity work. As if he hadn't been paid handsomely and rewarded with near-deity status in this state. Favre maybe didn't owe Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy any apologies, but he sure as **** owed the fans one. Instead, Favre's basically said I hope they still love me. And if not ... get over it.

And one last little tangent. I really believed until this last weekend that at one point I'd be able to forgive and forget and cheer for Favre when they retire his number. But I don't think I can anymore. Not because he unretired and wanted to play and weaseled his way to a divisional rival, but because it has become patently obvious that he doesn't really care that much about Green Bay fans at all. That's fine, he doesn't have to care.
And conversely, neither do I.
To quote Forrest Gump: That's all I've got to say about that.

The womanizing thing is the only part that I have not heard directly from his own mouth or read in his autobiography.

It seems that many fans and Brent alike, have begun to believe the fairy tale that he rode into Green Bay on his white horse and saved the kingdom.

I actually have doubts that he will show up for the retiring of his #.

This is a joke. The packers had the very good D's when they went to the SB's. They are a very important reason why the Packers got to them and won one of them. to say they would be a under .500 team shows that you giving Favre way to much credit and spitting in the face of the rest of the team.

I think he was referencing 2007 not 1996 or 1997

As far as recent history goes:

Maybe its the Fact that the main reason for our 13-3 season was Favre carrying the team....and just maybe we are all now seeing what Favre saw in McCarthy and TT.....TT not bringing in players...McCarthys obvious poor coaching and motivating ability.

Thus Favre waffled and got out.

Can't say I blame him seeing what our team has become.

TT and MM will get what they deserve...to be fired. Favre gets the last laugh.

If Brent was the main reason for 13-3,
why didn't he do it every year??

This is football, truly a team sport.
QB is VERY important but still is only one position.
Favre didn't play defense or special teams
and didn't throw to himself or run the football(much).

Go Pack!!

Either way, 2007 is the only year in the past 5 years where the ST has even shown anything. As everyone has been saying, the problems that the Packers have been having are nothing new and have been around since TT and Co. got here.

QUOTE (ammek @ Nov 4 2009, 07:09 AM) *
Packer special teams ranking by year:
2005: 30th
2006: 29th
2007: 8th
2008: 20th
2009: 25th.

Going even further back:

2004: 14th
2003: 13th
2002: 25th
2001: 8th
2000: 8th

Green Bay has pretty much always had at least decent special teams. The 2002 season may just be a statistical oddity. That was the year where the NFC North was like how the NFC West has been the past few years. Packers went 12-4 that year with Minn in second with 6-10? Detroit 4-12? Chicago 3-13? So success could have just been from beating up on our lowly sisters that year, even though it certainly didn't help us in the playoffs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Doesn't really help that the Packers are 30th this year in opponents starting field position. The Packers opponents average starting field position is the 32 and 1/2 yard line (32.47). Only the Titans and Lions give their opponents better starting field position.

And I'd have no problem with him if he'd have just been honest about it.
