My wife and I will be visiting Door County at the end of Sept. I realize this is after the tourist season, but is there any thing that we should try to take in?
You should definitely try a fish boil. A bit pricy, but get there early, bring your camera, and be willing to ask questions. Our favorite is in Fish Creek, at Pelletiers (sp?).

If you like apples you could go apple picking.

To be perfectly honest I think Door County is way over rated!

I love Door County and spend a good deal of time there when I can.
Peninsula State Park is worth checking out, even for a drive through, but you do have to pay to enter. They also have a decent golf course at the park if you are into golf.
Fish Creek has a lot of shops and restaurants.
I like Washington Island a lot. It's worth it to take the passenger ferry from Gills Rock to Washington Island if you've got the better part of a day to spend, you can take bikes on the ferry, or rent them on the island.
Ephraim is a nice scenic little town, more shops.
Some restaurants I like: The Cookery in Fish Creek
Mr. Helsinki, also in Fish Creek
GOTTA go to Al Johnson's in Sister Bay. Old, European style building with a grass covered roof. They have goats on the roof who keep the grass short. It's also the family business of the Johnson's who were UW football players.
Wilson's in Sister Bay is a nice little ice cream parlor/restaurant if you're looking for something casual for lunch.
There's many more.
There's a lot to do up there, just grab a free visitor magazine at almost any business where you stop.

I heard this is cool- Hands On Art Studio in Fish Creek. I guess they have a metal fab shop, ceramics shop, mosaic stuff, some kind of paint and glass thing. Anyway, you make your own art.

You might be a week or so early for the leafs changing. Lots of little shops up and down the coasts though. Its pretty scenic up there.
A week? Try a month and 1/2.
