I'm really surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Unfortunately, the handling of the firing of Nolan was handled very poorly. Leaks to the press, letting rumors swirl, etc. Apparently, Mike Singletary is the replacement HC. This is good, to me, because I think Singletary should be given a shot at being a HC. At the same time, this is a team in at least mild disarray- starting with big problems at QB. Best of luck to Singletary- he's going to need it.

Too bad, I like Mike Nolan.

I especially enjoyed his dapper, classy suit and tie look during games, in honor of his father last year. It brought a sense of style and nostalgia back into the game.

His incompetance as a coach has set the suit wearing coach movement back at least a decade. Good riddence.

Was he that bad?

I generally don't like the firing of a Head Coach during the season. I think if you start with HC, at least let him finish the season and see what happens. I understand these guys are on the hot seat but if after 5 games the owner or GM feels compelled to remove a HC, then was he really the right guy for the job in the first place?

I think it says more about the owner and GM that they can't make good coaching decisions.

Just my opinion!

I agree that coaches shouldn't usually be fired mid-season.

Also, don't be stunned if they hire Jim Schwartz (Titans DC) during the offseason. They almost hired him in 2005, instead of Nolan. He also fits their front-office philosophy of doing "moneyball" things. And with the Titans defense blowing everybody away, what better time for a team to try to snag him away from the Titans.

Nolan was close to getting fired after last season but the owner and GM decided to give him one last chance. When it was clear things where getting worse they decided to make the change.
